The Spirit of Water - Recent Articles
As featured in Nature & Health Magazine June/July 2008.

The goods.
INTERVIEW WITH Lawrence Ellyard.
Lawrence Ellyard is a natural therapist, Reiki practitioner, author and teacher.
He has trained with Dr Masaru Emoto, author of The Hidden Messages in Water,
who invited him to write a book on this subject from a Western perspective.
Angela Rossmanith talks to him about this new book, The Spirit of Water.

N&H: How did you come to know about Dr Emoto’s work?

Lawrence Ellyard: More than a decade ago, I first saw the ice crystal images in Emoto’s first book and I was fascinated. Some time later, when my meditation teacher talked about Emoto’s work, I decided there really must be something to it. Then I saw a screening of the international hit What the Bleep Do We Know?!, which featured Emoto’s images of ice crystals, and I realised the importance of his message.

N&H: Tell us about this message.

Lawrence Ellyard: What Emoto has shown is that when water is exposed to words or music or images, it absorbs the information and this is evident under the microscope when it is frozen. Positive vibrations result in beautiful ice crystals, whereas negative vibrations result in distorted crystals. What we do, say and think has a dramatic effect on water. Human beings are made up of more than 70 per cent water, so what we expose ourselves to and what we express both have a profound effect on our health and happiness.

N&H: In The Spirit of Water you begin with a discussion of hado. What does this term mean exactly?

Lawrence Ellyard: It’s important to have a basic understanding of the term hado in order to understand the process of ice crystal photography. Hado is a Japanese word meaning vibration, and in this context it refers to the subtle energy throughout the universe, including the energy of human beings. The idea is that by changing the vibration you change the substance, so a specific hado will result in particular ice crystal formations. In the same way, hado can be applied to the way we live our lives.

N&H: Can this hado, or energy, be used for evil as well as for good?

Lawrence Ellyard: There is a light side and a dark side to hado. I write about the hado of hate and its destructive force – when we are angry, the water in our body becomes distorted and ugly. But we do have a choice in the way we see life, and the good news is that we can change our hado any time we decide to. When we raise our consciousness, watch the words that we use and the thoughts we think, we can experience the hado of happiness.

N&H: You explore a number of topics in your book, including the fascinating notion of ‘hexagonal water’. Tell us more about that.

Lawrence Ellyard: Positive hado results in ice crystals that are hexagonal in shape. Whenever water is exposed to positive influences it will show a hexagonal structure. Extensive research has been carried out on hexagonally structured water, and a number of researchers have discovered the relationship between this hexagonal structure and wellness.

N&H: So how can we get hold of hexagonal water?

Lawrence Ellyard: There are a few ways to produce it. For people who live in mountainous regions, they have access to this water naturally. You can also apply ionisation or strong magnetic fields, through the use of vortex machines, for example. But the easiest way for us all is to use our consciousness. We can affect our water positively by playing beautiful music to it and exposing it to positive words, thoughts and images. In this way, we increase water’s vibratory level and therefore promote its hexagonal structure.

N&H: One of the key features of your book is the practical suggestions you offer. Would you give some examples here?

Lawrence Ellyard: One example would be the practice of what I call ‘the hado smile’. When you smile you form a natural hexagonal shape in your face, and this may explain why a smile is so attractive to others. Begin by sitting comfortably and stilling your mind. Watch your breath, and begin to smile, imagining the radiant energy of your smile streaming from your eyes to your heart, and then spreading this feeling into the various areas of your body and inner organs. This is a practice that leaves you feeling peaceful and relaxed. It can become a wonderful addiction.

N&H: In what way is your book The Spirit of Water different from Masaru Emoto’s books?

Lawrence Ellyard: The Spirit of Water takes Masaru Emoto’s research further, expanding on the fine foundation he has laid down. Also, because the book is written from a Western perspective, it offers readers a more user-friendly application to the material.

N&H: How will readers of The Spirit of Water benefit from your book?

Lawrence Ellyard: When I wrote this book I wanted to give readers something more than just information. I wanted them to learn practical skills and simple exercises to explore and implement in their daily lives. I dedicated a whole chapter to exercises that anyone can use to improve the quality of their water with results anyone can taste. The implications of this work are enormous. I feel we are metaphorically at the ‘tip of the iceberg’, and as we delve more deeply into the
potential each one of us holds, we will learn more about water and how we can collectively create peace in our time. This is the true Spirit of Water and the hidden message it holds for all of us.
